In a world of majestic beauty, I seek to document a more ‘quiet beauty.’ My nature photography reflects a desire to capture and record the many tranquil aspects of my journeys that are many times missed by the casual observer. As an outdoorswoman and an environmentalist, I use my camera to explore the terrain I encounter, seeking to find unappreciated beauty in naturally occurring vistas, and seeking to capture the essence found within each moment.
I have always been attracted by the strong graphical elements I find within nature’s dynamic landscapes, reflecting a love of the works of Ansel Adams. My photographs attempt to move beyond the attention to contrasts supplied by light and shadow, using soft tones to instill the images with emotional impact that enhances those dramatic effects. As a documentary fine artist trained both in photojournalism and in the fine arts, I am bound to seek honesty in my subjects and to communicate the spirituality of the moment. My work focuses on documenting intimate portraits and unexpected views of the landscape… and to tell their story. I search for what many may see as ordinary and discover the extraordinary.
I have been investigating the movement of water and land using long exposures… exploring abstract imagery through the interplay of light, patterns, and tones. The effects can be surreal, and even ethereal. I believe these images are pathways into the unexpected depth of the natural world.
