If there is a common aspect to all my work, it is that it is all about stuff that interests me, everything from biology, to history, to religion, to popular culture. Much of my imagery is of common objects and situations, but with themes that go beyond mere representation. Above all, I try to make art that works on a purely visual level, so viewers can appreciate my work even if they don't know or understand the background. People usually classify my visual style as a cross between pop and expressionism, which fits in with my main influences being comic books, mid 20th century animation, Frans Masereel, and the German Expressionists. I work in the medium of woodcut because I enjoy the process and because some of its inherent qualities, such as simplicity of message and availability to the masses, well suit my approach to art.
