Nature speaks to each of us. When we are patient enough, quiet enough, able to pay attention enough, we can engage in cycles, eavesdrop on mysteries, even glimpse our own place in the world.
As an artist and environmentalist, I don’t want to “improve” on nature, but rather use it as a springboard for exploration. Digital manipulation – or photoplay, as I like to think of it – is an infinite palette that allows me to see even deeper into the places and connections around me. I am particularly intrigued by color and shadow, shapes and negative space; photoplay offers an exciting way to experiment with these while keeping the solid – and perfect – foundation that nature offers.
I hope my EarthWays art helps engage a viewer’s own relationship to nature, inspires deeper stillness, cultivates curiosity and promotes greater stewardship of our earth.
