Dennis Carroll, photographer and painter, retired in June 2002 after 35 years with the Ridgewood, NJ Public Schools as an art teacher, District Supervisor of Art and Co-Artistic Director of the New Players Theater Company at Ridgewood High School.
For many years, Carroll was also a member of the Modern Artist Guild, a Bergen County artist group and exhibited with it at colleges, corporate headquarters, galleries and libraries in New Jersey and at its own gallery at the Bergen County Museum. In addition, Carroll’s work has been shown at the NJ State Museum in Trenton, Montclair Art Museum, Shore Institute for the Contemporary Arts, Monmouth Museum, Crybaby Gallery and Paint Place, the last two in Asbury Park, Kornbluth Gallery in Fair Lawn, NJ and the Zimmerli Museum at Rutgers University. His work is also in many private collections. From 2004-2007 he was co-owner of the APeXgallery in Asbury Park. His works are in numerous private collections throughout the country.
His paintings are loosely rendered and highly charged color abstractions which juxtapose spontaneity with control. Most photographs, in contrast, depict spare, evocative spaces.
Carroll has a studio in Asbury Park where he lives and is active in the community, serving as founding board member of the Arts Coalition of Asbury Park and its past president. He also serves on the board of the ReVision Theatre Company and, previously, on the board of the Asbury Park Chamber of Commerce. He currently curates art exhibitions at the Heaven Art and Antiques Gallery in downtown Asbury Park. He holds undergraduate and graduate degrees from Montclair State University.
