I connect with the idea that my life is like a work of art or painting. Both are an evolutionary process of engagement and learning. Both include ongoing lessons in perspective and relationships that are full of color, texture and value. Both challenge my imagination and my ability to see possibilities.
I love nature for it’s beauty and ability to transcend time. In many ways it’s uncomplicated for me and a place where I can find serenity. One of my favorite things to paint are plein air landscapes. However, as I progress as an artist and human being I am finding that almost any subject represents an opportunity for me to grow and evolve. And perhaps how I choose a subject is in reality a process of the subject choosing me for the purpose of my expansion and not uniquely for the purpose of my painting.
Technically speaking I feel the most connection with the medium of oil paints. They have qualities and characteristics that are unique and very appealing to me. I love their viscosity and slow drying time. I think this gives me a more expansive range of opportunity in which to respond to my subject whether it’s a landscape or still life. I like to capture light. However, I find my approach with the paint can change as I let myself response to the subject organically. There’s honesty in working that way for me.
In closing, the common thread throughout my work is my heart and the invisible aspect of guidance and connection that leads my way. This is what makes my heart beat possible and my dreams worth reaching for.
I am but one canvas with infinite possibility.
