As a police artist trained by both Scotland Yard and the F.B.I., I have found an artistic niche in art crimes and have been traveling around the world convincing these people, that is, art thieves, forgers, detectives, to name a few, to pose for me, and I placed these characters into an art historical perspective by painting their portraits."
While in the past I have dedicated the energy of my artistic voice mainly to the drawing and painting of the criminal underworld figures of the art world, and those detectives who investigate their crimes, I have recently expanded my visual investigations to artists and art world habitues who have touched my life or inspired me on my artistic path. These new works are part of a perennial series of portraits of my artist brothers and sisters. The theory and concept behind this series of friends' portraits is simple, pure and benevolent. There is no monetary gain expected from this body of work and it is totally free from mercenary or economic motives and expectations. Just pure benevolence, love of art and love of people in our lives. ( I truly believe that life is art; it is art that gives life meaning. and I see living masterpieces every day in my friends that I love and it is people who are the true artworks in our lives). All artists are brothers and sisters and they are brothers/sisters in arms against the conventionality and grey lifelessness of a Phillistinized corporate controlled world. They were put here to make the world a little more interesting. I, being so deeply immersed in the blue collar conventional society outside of New York, have realized what many New York artists have taken for granted or have forgotten- that is just how interesting and special artists are and how important their work is for the future of their city, country and humanity. Art is what gives life meaning and I am happy to have such extraordinary friends.
