The photographs I take are not planned. I make pictures by merging the unplanned. Some of the pictures display my sense of humor others show a darker side to my picture making.
Creating pictures from disparate parts is what my work is about. Combining unplanned images of every day people and places into content driven, meaningful images is the challenge.
Born in New York City, Peter Tilgner currently resides in Tenafly, New Jersey where he maintains a studio.
Peter’s formal education includes a BA, from the State College of New Jersey and a MA from New York University.
Peter’s thirty seven year career as and Artist/educator included teaching sculpture and photography. During this time his sculpture was shown in over two hundred group and several one person shows. Since the year 2000 his digitally manipulated, merged image photographs have been shown in more than thirty group shows and three one person shows.
His art work can be found in the collections of the The Newark Museum, Newark, NJ, Prudential Insurance Co., Newark, NJ, and the Port Authority of New York and New
Jersey as well as a number of private collections.
Peter is a recipient of a Geraldinde R. Dodge Foundation grant.
